EPA - At the very head of my list for its stress and anxiety relieving properties, this Omega 3 fatty acid -- found abundantly in fish oil -- can also have a tremendously beneficial affect on those suffering from mild to moderate depression For the past couple of years, I have been recommending this particular supplement to clients and have witnessed the real and positive difference that it can make in the lives of those who regularly take it. Indeed, there is a growing body of evidence that pure EPA helps improve mental functioning, stabilise mood and helps us to deal more effectively with stress and anxiety. Supplementing with pure EPA has proven helpful not only for people suffering from stress, but it has had a real and positive affect on individuals experiencing bi-polar disorder (also known as manic depression), depression, and mood swings. Additionally, EPA has been shown to improve memory, concentration and mental processing. EPA has also been shown to be of help in successfully treating skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. The local health food store probably has an abundance of bottles labelled 'EPA' for sale, but most of these contain too low a proportion of actual EPA and large amounts of DHA. Almost all of the research has been conducted with pure EPA and so, when choosing to supplement, it is important to select a fish oil high in EPA and low in DHA in order to gain the maximum benefit. UK residents can check www.mind1st.co.uk when considering purchasing EPA, while those outside the UK will need to go online to locate a supplier. In my experience, it really is worth the effort, and the price. St John's Wort - Often called 'Nature's Prozac', St John's Wort is also sometimes referred to as 'the sunshine vitamin', though it is not a vitamin but a herbal supplement. For centuries St John's Wort has been used to treat mental disorders such as depression and, though not recommended in cases of major depression, it has demonstrated its ability to successfully and beneficially influence mild to moderate depression, anxiety and stress. It is thought that the active agent in St John's Wort works by preventing neurons or brain cells from re-absorbing serotonin - commonly referred to as 'the happiness molecule' - thereby stimulating an abundance of this essential, mood-influencing chemical messenger in the brain. Another suggestion is that it works by reducing levels of a particular protein involved with the functioning of the body's immune system. But no matter exactly how it achieves its remarkable results, it does indeed appear to have a had a marked beneficial effect on clients who have given it an honest trial. Because St John's Wort can inter-react with certain medications, do remember to check with your health advisor before taking this powerful supplement. Once that is cleared, look forward to seeing results within a few weeks of regular supplementation. Vitamin B Complex - In order for the nervous system to be regulated in a healthy way, these vitamins are absolutely essential. Indeed, without these essential nutrients, not only would we cease to function mentally, but eventually everything would grind to a halt. Vitamins B1, B6 and B12 are needed for the effective functioning of the brain, as well as the whole nervous system. Indeed, a deficiency of any of the B vitamins can lead to feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression, not to mention feelings of fatigue and lethargy. In today's age of processed and de-natured convenient foods, it may be difficult to achieve sufficient quantities of these essential substances. Also, since each of the B vitamins works in close synergy with the others, a deficiency in any one B vitamin can provoke poor functioning of the others - even if they are in abundant supply in the diet. Because of this, it is wisest to take the B vitamins in a complete complex. Any excess of the B vitamins is easily excreted in the urine. Do be sure to read the label before buying, however. Cheap vitamin B complex can often be short in vitamin B6, since this is a relatively expensive vitamin to produce. Also, since vitamin B12 in particular is not easily absorbed when taken orally, look for a preparation that ideally has its vitamins in 'chelated' form. This simply means that the vitamins have been bonded with amino acids so that they can be efficiently absorbed and utilised by the body. Of course, chelated vitamins do cost a bit more, but it is well worth that little bit extra. In the final analysis, the really important thing is not what we consume, but what we absorb. Give these supplements a try for just three months and notice how your mood and mental functioning change and improve. IMPORTANT: Information contained in this article is not a replacement for proper nutritional or medical advice. Since certain supplements are contra-indicated for some individuals, especially those taking other medication, before beginning any programme of supplementation you are advised to visit your doctor or other qualified health care professional.

Stress anxiety is a bit difficult to describe and people have experienced such conditions for a very long time. Stress is the feeling or state of being in a situation were there is nothing more you can give or say because your resources have been exhausted by the high demand. Anxiety is a negative feeling that comes as a result of anticipating certain things or event. When you mix stress and anxiety, you will find that it is a feeling with a lot of negative energy. We experience stress anxiety all the time when we are dealing with society and family. It has been said that a bit of the emotion is not entirely negative to us and this might be true to some extent. You therefore need to have more information about stress and anxiety so that you can know what to do and where to place them in your life.Anxiety is a common feeling in everyday life and the presence of it will affect several things in our lives. It will influence the way we feel. This means that our emotions under the influence of anxiety will be different and the lack of anxiety in our emotions is being without stress. The second way anxiety affects us is the way our bodies function. This means that with a lot of anxiety, manifest reactions in our body will be very evident and one example of this is when the body starts shaking in anxiety as you wait for something crucial. Another way anxiety is going to affect us is through the way we think and we are capable of entertaining the most negative thoughts due to anxiety. Finally, anxiety is going to affect the way we behave. We can act in whichever way anxiety will influence us. An example of the above sentiments is that we may feel frightened by a stressor then, our hearts will race, in our thoughts, we will keep worrying and finally what we do is to pace up and down in the height of anxiety. There are several causes of anxiety and the first thing is that some people are simply born to worry and it is in their personality to be tense. The other cause may be stressful events in life like divorce death and others. The other cause of the stress anxiety is pressure which may come from the home or the work place. Therefore, anxiety is simply the body's response to stress and the symptoms of it are part of the fight or flight mechanism. Anxiety becomes problem when it becomes a vicious cycle. When you have stressful anxiety, you can get help from health professional who might prescribe some drugs which should not be take for a long period of time. You can also be referred to a mental health counselor who will guide you through your emotions. Also, you can empower yourself with such resources to ensure you stay ahead with good practices that will help keep away stress and anxiety.
